I have had this computer for about a month now and I love it. 

For the price, this computer can't be beat. A comparable Dell for example is $500 more.

I chose to remove one of the hard drives and put in a 120GB solid state drive, which boosted the already great performance considerably for $150. I use the now extra 500GB drive for external storage. Performance wise, the only draw back is that its at the maximum memory already, no memory upgrade capability.

The bloatware from Toshiba was no worse then HP, Dell, ect...but still not great. Screen and enclosure are beautiful.

Could you get a better notebook? Sure, but will it be worth the extra cost, doubtful...

The UPS delivery person came to my door and did not knock, just left the box and took off. It looks beautiful. Best computer I've ever owned. I just felt being 68, going on 69 years old, I must have a faster laptop and this is it. I like the Toshiba Bulletin Board, I will use it for my notes and Toshiba updates. I adjusted the Harman/Kardon speakers in the Dolby Control Center and they sound great. Just finished creating the recovery discs (it takes 4 DVD discs) for my new laptop. I wanted to get the Labelflash DVD+R from FUJIFILM from Amazon, unfortunately there currently unavailable and they don't know when the item will be back in stock. I had to get the Memorex LabelFlash DVD-R from Best Buy 10 pack for $15.99. Make sure to check for availability before you go there. I took the last one in the store. You can use the included program 'Corel Label Once if you want to burn an image on the labeling side. I was able to find several templates for download on the Labelflash Website. I was a little worried this might not work well, after having so much trouble with my HP computer and LightScibe label burning (the LightScribe burning would stop before the label was done and tell me to reboot my computer). Could not get a perfect looking label with LightScibe. To my surprise, creating the labels with Labelflash worked perfect. The disc drive is very quiet. Hopefully, the Yamaha/ Fujifilm Corporation, presenting Labelflash will offer more label colors (blue for now) in the near future. I would recommend this computer to a friend. I always hope nothing will go wrong and that I can enjoy my new Toshiba laptop many years.

I was in the market for a monster gaming laptop and this was the one I ended up buying and I've been very happy about it. 

Pros:
1) I was looking for Core i7, decent discrete graphics card, Blu-Ray, 1080p, and backlit keyboard. Even though this machine did not have BluRay, it's still pretty decent for a sub $1200 machine
2) 12GB of RAM! That's way more than I'll need for now!
3) GTX560M is no slouch. Only been playing WOW, but it looks very good so far
4) The case is matte, which is better than glossy at attracting finger prints
5) 2 year global warranty is better than 1
6) An empty drive bay just in case you want to install a 2nd HDD or SSD
7) Not much bloatware. Still quite a bit to uninstall, but not as much as say HP
8) The backpack & mouse that I got was surprisingly good.
9) Runs really quiet (when not accessing the optical drives) and cool. There is a monster exhaust system in the back, so the vents gets very warm.

Cons:
1) Slow GFX bus when compared to G53SW-A1, but the other one have less RAM
2) Odd power adapter connection location and doesn't really fit in to the machine well
3) The computer is a MONSTER. It's about the same size as my old 17" Dell, definitely NOT portable
4) Speaking of portable, the battery life is also awful, again not really surprising and really pretty much expected.
5) You have to burn your own back up DVDs
6) Speakers are a bit weak when compared to similar machines
7) The extended keyboard is kind of squished, but I'm used to it now
8) Weird HDD partitions. There is a hidden 100GB recovery partition and two 300GB partitions (one is SYSTEM and the other DATA). Might mess around and install a 128GB SSD and make the 750GB the data drive later
9) Upgrading the GFX card not possible (again expected, but it is possible on a Dell)
10) No BluRay and only one USB3 port

So it's not a perfect machine, but the cons are mostly expected. Given the cost of this machine compared to say XPS 17 (Sub par GFX card & ram at the same price) & HP Envy (Suspect Motherboard), this machine was really too perfect to pass up. So far it's been very stable, quiet, fast, and cool. Really can't ask for much better other than maybe an internal BluRay drive. Did I mention that this machine is really fast and powerful?

ASUS G74SX-3DE 

6 units became available Friday afternoon. I quickly ordered and had it shipped overnight Saturday through Amazon Prime $3.99 shipping. They sold out within 20 minutes. Arrived in two well protected boxes from Asus and additional box from Amazon.

Contains:
1. Laptop with very long power supply cord :)
2. Targus cushioned backpack
3. 3D glasses (usb rechargeable)
4. Hard Wired mouse
5. Utilities/bios dvd. NO Windows 7 dvd. Latest bios already installed.

If you have a question, please post with great detail on how and where to look. I will get back to you with the findings. I'm not an elite computer whiz. My primary use is business, secondary for movies on the road at hotels and soon will be gaming.

Remember to register the computer when the pop up happens. You get a 2 year warranty. A 30-day LED screen replacement with any issues you find. A FREE 1 Year Accidental Damage warranty, but you will need to print out one of their pages with a Case # and proof of purchase (copy of sales receipt) then mail it to the address supplied. You need to find the accidental warranty page yourself.

ASUS hit a grand slam home run on this laptop. I am not a gamer, but will be buying a few in the next days. Any suggestions are welcome. I'll buy, try and review them. Youtube already has game reviews for this model.

Inspired by US Navy's Sea Shadow stealth ship, this gorgeous computer has beautiful sleak lines. Soft radar absorbing rubberish texture. I worry about oil or liquid absorption. No reflective finger print prone gloss. The feel of the case and palm rests are comfortably soft.

SOLID single hinge. Folds backward to a 45 degree angle. It does fall/collapse by itself with two inches to close. So, maybe not that rock solid of a hinge, but very strong. Four tiny squared rubber feet on top of the led screen prevents smack banging. Entire upper led section is blacked out.

Keys are masterfully layed out. Keyboard ergonomically slants down for comfortable typing and view of keys. I don't like the exposure of led lights below the keys. Easy to read keys with backlit led display. Some keys have symbols elevated to the top half of the key. Interestingly easier to find. ASUS Store actually sells the keyboard section on its website. I have noticed a few missed keystrokes for the @ and random letters. I may have caught my palms touching the gloss mouse pad a few times which caused misspellings. Not very confident about the mousepad and keyboard yet.

Powers up quickly. Windows 7 update was quick. Only bloatware was Microsoft Office, a horrible anti-virus program and some ASUS branded program to buy mp3's. All easily removed. 4 DVD system backup took 1 hour 30 minutes. Installed AVG anti-virus and MalwareBytes. Runs fast.

The 1080p display is gorgeous. I wouldn't call it outstanding or exceptional, but it does look beautiful. Not close enough to today's television standards. Roxio blu-ray software works with Lord of the Rings blu-ray. (LOTR didn't work in a cheaper Asus 17" blu-ray capable laptop I recently bought for my niece.) I didn't like the 3DE's led display having a dark dark blue background. I was expecting pitch black. Hoping for no bleed through of any kind. Hopefully others will be able to make a better informed comment on that. I look for well defined lines in shadows. I love dark rich blacks. This was okay for LOTR, but I had higher expectations. The screen is viewable from almost any angle. The matte finish works exceptionally well, obviously. Although I have no idea if that affects colors or perceived colors and shadows. Does it dull them?

COOLING through the rear vents is unbelievable. Brilliant. Sits cool on my lap. No heat on the keyboard. You can feel the heat gently move out the back. Given, no games are being played.

Speakers running along the hinge are odd. The sound literally appears to be stuck within the laptop, unable to escape. I put my ears on the speakers and all around the laptop. It emanates from within the laptop, not the speakers. Bizarre bizarre bizarre. It is loud enough to hear games, speech and audio fine, but absolutely NOT worthy of music or movies.

Solution to the sound problem found in another model of this G74SX....
QUOTE, "I investigated the low volume issue with the G74SX, ad I managed to figure out what was causing it. The "Built-In Speakers" setting in THX TruStudio is filtering the audio into oblivion. Set the app to "External Speakers" and you'll regain your full spectrum of audio, at proper levels. (At least matching the MS driver). If this doesn't work for you properly, uninstall both apps and drivers, reboot, run Driver Cleaner for Realtek Sound and Creative, reboot, and then install your Realtek driver and THX MUI. (I did this during my testing, so it may or may not be necessary.) Compared to the G73SW, the audio has a fuller sound. Since the audio plate is larger, I suspect they installed larger speaker drivers, which is probably why I suspect there's not sub driver. No need. Needless to say, headphones and external powered units will still sound better." I HAD TO DO A WINDOWS SEARCH FOR "TruStudio" TO FIND THE SOFTWARE. THE FIX WORKED LIKE A CHARM.

If you want an amazing stereo sound but require small portability, I tried my set of X-Mini "MAX" II Capsule Speakers (eggshell design). My thorough review of them here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2LWYUCYNEJEBR A smaller set without the MAX name is available and highly rated, but I don't think they sound nearly as good as the slightly bigger MAX versions. Amazon has various sellers and colors like black, red and white. Anyway, the sound of these small speakers is AMAZING with this laptop. They are usb rechargeable. Check youtube for reviews and how they work. Lord of the Rings blu ray sounded awesome! I used an old 80's hair band Steelheart self titled cd to test the X-Mini MAX II's. It's one of the best produced and recorded cd's I've ever heard. You can crank it high as hell with little distortion. Most music is horribly recorded. That is why you hear cracks and static. Miljenko Matijevic sings a high B5 without falsetto. Loud drum bangs and rumbles. Guitars are clear and crisp. I love iTunes software. You can pick up free internet radio stations playing every kind of music genre.

X-Mini "MAX" II Capsule Speakers (approx $30) best value. Has two speakers. STEREO SOUND. Volume dial control. USB rechargeable. USB cords unplug from speakers. Magnetic half eggshell design snaps two together to one full egg for portability. Be careful of the manufacturer name and design. I saw a cheap knockoff.

FYI, Lots of other one speakers with high praise, but not a stereo two speaker like the "MAX". You can always try this too Logitech USB Laptop Speaker Z305 Reviews found on youtube.

LED MODES: High Performance, Entertainment, Quiet Office, Battery Saving modes are available on the button to the left of the power button. Battery Savings looks like it runs in SAFE mode; no wallpaper, task bar hidden, etc. Supposedly this same button controls 3D for 3D designed games and 3D movies.

NO 3D games are included. Asus only includes a selection of 3D photos from games. Looks just like the 80's View-Master. Definitely does look cool, but probably doesn't do justice with movies and games. They probably needed to keep the price below $2,000.00 so they left out that and 4 gig of ram to max out the 16GB capability.

Installed Skype. Works perfectly.

OTHER CONS (not really, I needed something to bitch about)
- The open laptop appears to be a dust magnet. I'll have to find a small feather duster to keep clean daily.
- Targus case isn't wireless mouse friendly. Sleak design hugs the mouse, causing activation to drain the battery.
- No mouse pad for the included hard wired mouse.
- Opened approximately 50 web pages at once with Chrome. About 20 pages failed to load. Not a big deal. Just a test.
- No clear plastic keyboard cover guard available anywhere.

First things first, this is the best laptop purchase I've made in a while. I have 7 laptops, don't ask why, lol. I basically live, eat and breath computers mainly laptops for the past 15 years. Okay, enough of that, on with the review. 

The screen on this laptop is beautiful and bright, maybe a little too bright but you can change the settings combined with its great contrast, not to mention it has a 17.3 inch screen with a 16:9 ratio(1600x900 resolution) used by cinema, so you get the correct look for 720p or 1080p video and pictures, perfectly. The keyboard layout is great and not spongy. The sound is also great after you go into the settings and change it because out of the box it wasn't set properly, but easy fix, you have to use the Realtek HD Audio Manager in Control panel to get that volume louder and grander. The laptop has an overall great construction, nothing flimsy about it and perfect grey/black, not to mention the nice metal look of the palm rest area.

Combined with the radeon 6550 and i5 processor, I've been able to play, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 1 and 2 without a hiccup on high settings.

The only cons that I've found with this system is that there are no dedicated physical buttons for volume and touchpad(on/off). Also, the numlock has no light indication either, although it does flash on screen to let you know as well as there are volume and touchpad controls using the function key. The usb ports, etc should have been closer to the rear of the system since I use a mouse on the right side there are 2 usb ports on that side as well but its not that big of a deal since I use micro usb devices anyway and there is another port on the left side with the rest of the ports. Just minor small pet peeves really as they have not affected my productivity at all.

Overall, I am completely pleased with my purchase and it was well worth the moderate price, don't regret anything and love it.

This notebook is more like a desktop that folds, let's just lead with that. It is HEAVY, and designed more for gamers than for people who will be on the go for most of the time. That said, it was (and is) a powerful machine, with enough processing power and memory to get even fairly heavy-duty programs running well. I have installed Windows 7 on my model, and would recommend both the OS and the computer to anyone looking for a gaming laptop. In addition to the impressive hardware specs, I have to say that mine was durable as well; even though I dropped it twice, and once it got pulled off a couch because my brother tripped on the power cord, it survived without a problem and Dell replaced the cosmetically damaged components for me. To sum up, I think this is a great computer at what it does; powerful, cool-looking, and durable.

I am so very pleased with this computer! I have had it for one month now and it has performed as well as advertised. I am a retired Navy Vet and I saw this computer at my Navy exchange, listed for 1449.00, I went every weekend and pondered purchasing this laptop but didn't. So one weekend I go in and it's gone and there would be no more arriving. That's when I did decide to purchase one. I wanted a high end gaming machine which I play few games but some (mostly to have multimedia powerhouse). Without the powerhouse price! That is when I traveled to my old standby Amazon.com. I had searched the internet for a couple of weeks and still Amazon had the best price on this machine. I also trust Amazon over all the other retailers that carried this item. After it was said and done I saved 146 dollars over my Navy exchange price. I paid no tax or shipping charges with Amazon prime. 

The computer is amazing, the finish is wonderful it keeps annoying finger prints away (mostly), the display is top notch. This computer is smoking fast and hard drive capacity is just what I like.... Room for EVERYTHING. The ECO feature is what I use most of the time but when it comes time to play a game I turn it off. I don't play too many games as of yet but I do play Duke Nukem at full acceleration and all highest of high video settings, it plays flawlessly. It does get a little hot at the exhaust when playing at full power, but this is no problem. The keyboard is tight and feels like a solid build. I can't say enough about the Toshiba X775.

Pros: 

-1080p Screen. (Makes everything look extremely smooth.)
-Amazing GPU
-Light up keyboard! (Working at night has never been easier)
-Great heat dissipation. I Have had it for 6 days, have not even heard my fan come on yet. I thought i did once, but that was desktop idling in the background.
-Quick boot-up. After the first boot up, takes no longer than 3 minutes to get to my homescreen.
Cons:
-Battery level. Battery is really small, only last about 2~3 hours. Which is pretty sad since i have to have it plugged in all the time. Not much of a con for me because i was looking for a desktop replacement.
-Size. This computer will not fit in your bookbag, Do not even try haha.

Really the only con i hate, is battery life. Bought this on the basis that i needed something strong since ill be going to college and want to study computer science. The GPU would help a lot when it came to render times on both after effects and cinema 4d. The battery life screws me though. I wish i had more, however there is no way to turn off the GPU when not in use and instead use the one that comes with the processor. This would increase battery life as i see it, however asus didnt make such a setting available. This computer is going to be a stay at home machine. Im not going to do much moving with it. That is my only reason as to why its not getting 5 stars. At one time i got 1hr and 30mins on a charge just browsing internet. However the way i see it, you can have power, or battery life. Maybe even both. I decided on power however.

Alright now down to some benchmarking!(Used Fraps with all of these!)
Portal 2:
It is positively amazing. I was expecting low FPS since this is a laptop after all, however i was completely blown away. I maxed every single setting possible, and played on a 1080p resolution. I got steady 60fps. No drops ever. This was really good for me, i think im going to be playing games for a while.
Fallout 3:
Set it on ultra. I get 52 fps, with 45 at its lowest. I was blown away by the amount of visual detail this was giving me. My console will never match up with this.
Team Fortess 2:
This ones a doozy. Didnt play it much, however at some point I got a FPS rate of about 120 FPS. I maxed as much settings as possible and came to this. Love it a lot.
Minecraft:
For the indie game lovers! I got an FPS rate of 180 FPS. Thats on high settings. Get rid of smooth lighting and such you get somewhere aroung 500~600 FPS. I did not even know so much was possible.

Lastly, if any of the people reading this know of a case that i can buy for this laptop please inform me. I bought one. But unfortunately it did not fit. Stay away from generic cases. The one i bought left the back of the laptop, where the vents are, completely exposed. Ill have to return this soon.

I was looking for something below $1000 and a 15" size and good performance and this was it. This was the first time I ever used a personal laptop or computer at home with AMD processor and I should say I loved it. First I was at the retail store and picked up another brand with I5 processor. It has more memory and more hard drive space than this laptop. Took it home and playing some high performance pc games and some streaming apps and noticed that the I5 really was bad. The graphics was slow, the performance was bad. So I went back to the store and tried other similar I5 laptops with other manufacturers and same bad result. Finally I thought I'll pick this one ( as it's quad core) and ran the same games in the store (thanks to my mobile hotspot ..;-) ) and the performance was simply superior for almost the same $$. I was really impressed even with 1/2 the memory of other laptops how it handled the same games and programs. Well, I was sold!!! I've been using this for couple months now. Great performance, no heat issues, fantastic display, nice looks. 

I feel really sad now, as amazon now sells it for less than $600! I paid over $750 + tax for this! Although definitely worth that money. Less than $600 is fantastic price!
Only complain I have is that sometimes when I type my palm accidently hits the touchpad and puts the cursor elsewhere or puts in scrolling mode. I think , then I learnt to position my hands differently. The issue is because the touchpad is fairly large and its possible you'll touch it accidently when your typing.
Overall great product. Kudos for AMD too!

Gamers will be happy to know that you can run CPU-intensive games with little to no problems. I played starcraft, rift, league of legends, and WoW at the highest possible gfx levels and there was some lag for starcraft/rift but not too much. If you go down to "very high" for both games you still get a nice looking game with virtually no lag. Also I never had a problem running two games at the same time with FireFox and my music up as well so the RAM checks out. When I looked at my Windows rating my lowest score was a 5.9 and that was because the hard drive spins at 7200 rpm. 

Overall PRO's: This laptop is a great mobile gaming rig. For late night gamers you can configure all the parts that light up including four keyboard regions to whatever colors you want. Also the laptop runs games and multiple programs with no problems. Finally, it has a great look to it(the front looks like the front of a camaro).

CON's: the laptop is pretty big and heavier than most other laptops of the same size but it's not like it weighs 50 pounds or anything. Also I wasn't too satisfied with its 2 megapixel webcam or it's speakers (however the speakers weren't worse than most other laptops on the market). Finally, the laptop is a little pricey coming in at almost 1700 dollars which should be a factor when buying it but not necessarily a breaking point.

Overall I was very pleased with my Alienware laptop. When you get it you also get a a mousepad, felt cover, and a boss hat so you can represent alienware.
